Since I’ve just finished two long-time projects in quick succession, I needed something new on the needles. Oh, sure, I’ve got the silk (ArtFibers Golden Chai, 100% golden tussah silk, colorway 33, yum) sweater that’s languishing on the needles. And there’s the super simple lace scarf that’s crawling along. But I’m feeling socks right now, so socks it will be. I really liked knitting (and wearing!) my two most recent handknit socks, and the common bond is a lacy pattern, so I went looking for another similar style. It’s called Kaibashira, and amazingly enough, I have the exact yarn called for in my extremely small stash (hey, I had to drag it halfway across the world - it’s amazing I have a stash at all, really)! Well, the same yarn, but not the same colorway. I have what I call PINK! although the manufacturer calls it 733 Get Your Feet Wet.
So, here we go!
Holy moly! I finished another project - the Ab Fab afghan for Lexy’s wedding present! It is, of course, absolutely fabulous. I even took pictures! I’m hiding them below the jump, though, since I’m not sure if Lexy reads the blog, and this way it can stay a sort-of suprise for her (only sort-of since she knows it’s coming and actually picked the colorway she wanted) (Lexy - don’t peek! How much more fabulous will it be if you see it for the first when you open the box?).

I just got off the phone with Kate, my best friend from high school. She’s teaching in Korea, and she and her boyfriend are coming to visit over Chinese New Year! Woo! Old friends! An excuse to finally go do some touristy things we’ve been wanting to do forever! She wants to go to Taroko Gorge, but I’m worried it’s more than a day trip, and that any hotels or hostels may already be booked. Looks like I’ve got to do some investigation into that sort of stuff in the next few days!
This is all I’ve got tonight, folks:
$4525.00The Cadaver Calculator - Find out how much your body is worth.
Despite a much better work schedule, I’m still beat tonight. I need to sleep or my throat will never forgive me.
Mmm….a Sunday without the dread of Kindy on Monday morning. We slept late, we puttered, I did some laundry and cleaned up the house, listened to an entire audiobook, and I’ve even knit a good chunk on Lexi’s wedding afghan (oh, it’s pretty).
Seth and I talked to Caleb again some last night, and I think I may start the resume polishing tomorrow morning while I’m not working (woo!). He thinks the place he’s working might be hiring, and I think I’m probably qualified. He seems to like the place lots, and says the workload isn’t completely insane. It might be nice to have a relatively sane work schedule, for a change.
In the mean time, I’m going back to knitting, and I think I’ll be staying up later than I normally would. Mmm…..no work tomorrow until 1:30or so!
It rains a lot here (you may have picked up on that from other posts). It’s almost ridiculous in its regularity. I’m not getting used to it, though, despite its constant presence.
I remember an ad for 7Up that ran when I was little. There was this couple dancing and kissing and (dur) drinking 7Up. The rain looked fun and romantic and not at all annoying. I think rain like that could be awesome.
This rain is not that rain.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t this 7Up ad, but it probably aired around the same time. I’m positive (well, as positive as I can be about a memory that dates to my single-digit years) that the setting was more urban - I remember streets and fire escapes - and that the dancing couple was younger, early-to-mid twenties probably. Does anyone else remember this, or am I nuts?
So, my throat hurts (on both sides now - yippee!), and I think maybe I’m getting still sick. Oh, right. This is the status quo. How could I have forgotten?
Stupid insane work schedule. Stupid rain all the ding dang time. Stupid air pollution.
I got to play my favorite game in class today. It’s a dumb one, really, but the students always enjoy it, and it’s easy.
It’s pictionary with language patterns in the questioning - you draw part of something (two time, since we’re learning Are they nouns? Yes (No), they are (not) nouns.) and they ask “Are they blah blah blah?” Nod or shake, and the whole class answers. Then you let then kids take turns drawing. Woo! So not-innovative! So easy to stand to the side and not have to think much! And yet, the class was pretty clearly enjoying themselves. Of course, they were having so much fun they forgot they were in English class, and the Chinese slipped in, but then again, it’s a very small class that I don’t teach regularly (actually, no NST is regularly scheduled for their class), and I think their usual teacher lets them get away with more than she probably should. Little buggers. The four who slipped up got double spelling words - 10x each instead of 5x. That’s usually a pretty harsh gig, but today they only had one stinking word - no. Not such an awful fate today, huh?
So, tomorrow is the last day of kindy for a while. We’re taking next week off at management’s suggestion, and then Chinese New Year begins the following Wednesday, so we’re lumping that Monday and Tuesday in with the week off. We’re both really looking foward to some time to sleep and get over the lingering illnesses we’ve both been dealing with. Also, I’m thinking I might try to knit a bit.
In the meantime, we made a mad-dash run to Costco tonight after classes. Seth wanted to pick up some Jelly Bellys for his kindy and I wanted to replenish our supply of flour tortillas. Oh! The flour tortillas? They are fantastic. With scrambled eggs and the pesto I’ve mentioned before, they make a quick and easy supper. They only appeared in the last few weeks, I think, and I’m glad they’re here now. I’d missed them. Oooo, maybe this weekend we can run down to Taoyuan to get some more beans and then have burritos. Come to think of it, we probably really need to do that anyway soon, since I promised Kate some Mexican eats while she was here visiting over the holiday.
Mmmm….time off with Mexican and margaritas….I can’t wait.
blah blah blah hacking cough blah blah blah working too many hours blah blah blah watching Battlestar Galactica blah blah blah you’ve read it all before
Actual content tomorow? Maybe.
I’m think I’m a bit burnt out currently. You can see it here on the blog - the quality of my posts has been spotty, at best. I don’t think it’s blog burnout, though. I’m pretty sure this is work-related.
We’re not working kindy next week. Maybe I’ll find the energy to post something of substance then.
